Beneficiaries

Every Louisiana Lottery ticket has a purpose! That’s because since its inception in 1991, the Lottery has transferred more than $4.3 billion to the state. Per a 2004 constitution amendment, Lottery proceeds are dedicated to the Minimum Foundation Program (MFP) which funds K-12 public education. At least 25 cents of every dollar spent on the Lottery’s games is transferred to our state.

Below are the transfers to public education over the last five years!

  • 2018: $172 million in transfers
  • 2019: $184.3 million in transfers
  • 2020: $179.2 million in transfers
  • 2021: $207.5 million in transfers
  • 2022: $190.6 million in transfers (projected)

Responsible Gaming

The Lottery's games are meant to be a fun form of entertainment and we are determined to help our players keep it that way by stressing the importance of playing responsibly.

The Lottery takes this effort seriously by distributing problem gambling awareness brochures in all of its retailer play centers; printing the problem gambling helpline number on all tickets, advertisements, news releases and sales materials; and encouraging players to adhere to responsible play techniques throughout the year.

In addition, the first $500,000 in Lottery proceeds each year goes to the Problem and Compulsive Gambling dedicated state fund that is managed through the Louisiana Department of Health-Office of Behavioral Health. The Lottery is committed to helping raise awareness of problem gambling and support referrals to the state's helpline, 877-770-7867.

Executive Director, Louisiana Association on Compulsive Gambling, Bossier City

"The Lottery has always been a part of the coalition of concern about problem gaming in conjunction with the Department of Health and LACG. Their involvement inpromoting responsible gaming and our help line is so important. In fact, they were really on the forefront of promoting the line on their products. We want people to have fun when they gamble but also know that if they have a problem, we are here to help. The Lottery understand and supports this. In addition, their dedicated funding helps provide world-class treatment and prevention resources."
