Zachary Resident Claims $100,000 Top Prize from Scratch-Off Ticket

Derek McKey of Zachary has a reason to smile as he received his "big check" for a $100,000 top prize from a Slots of Money scratch-off.
Derek McKey of Zachary has a reason to smile as he received his "big check" for a $100,000 top prize from a Slots of Money scratch-off.

Derek McKey of Zachary was met with skepticism when he told his father he won a $100,000 top prize from a Slots of Money scratch-off.

"He didn't believe me. I didn't believe it either," said McKey, age 21. "I scratched it in my truck and stuck it in my pocket. I think I was in shock."

McKey, who bought his ticket from Plaquemine Truck Stop in Plaquemine, said he plans to save his winnings to purchase a house.

Slots of Money is a $5 scratch-off game that offers players the chance to win up to 15 times on each ticket. With more than $2.7 million in total cash prizes, Slots of Money has two remaining top prizes as of Sept. 20.

According to Louisiana Lottery policy, a scratch-off game is closed and removed from sale when all top prizes in the game have been claimed. Winners have 90 days from the game closure date in which to claim their prize.

Players must be at least 21 years old to purchase a Lottery ticket. The Lottery encourages anyone who has a gambling problem or friends and family of anyone with a gambling problem to call toll-free 1-877-770-7867 for help.

A list of current scratch-off games and prizes remaining can be found on the Lottery's Web site, www.louisianalottery.com.
