LA JAZZ Contest Winner Artwork to Appear on Mardi Gras Scratch-Off

New Orleans self-taught artist Darrin Butler's original artwork "Let the Good Times Roll" was selected as the winner of the "Louisiana Joys, Arts, Zest and Zeal (LA JAZZ)" visual arts competition. Butler's winning work is a stain painting that captures the unique New Orleans cultural tradition of the "second line."

"We are honored for the opportunity to use Mr. Butler's 'Let the Good Times Roll' artwork on a Mardi Gras themed scratch-off game to be launched later this year. His work is filled with rich vibrant colors that should resonate with Lottery players and art lovers alike," said Lottery President Rose Hudson.

During the October Board of Directors meeting, Lt. Governor's Office General Counsel Donovan Hudson presented Vice Chairman Pam Daniel with a Certificate of Proclamation for the Lottery's assistance in the contest.

LA JAZZ was created to share the talents of Louisiana's greatest cultural assets, its artists with the world. Over 100 visual artists from across the state submitted entries of what they loved about living in Louisiana. The contest was sponsored by the Office of the Louisiana Lieutenant Governor (OLG) and the Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation & Tourism (DCRT) in cooperation with the Louisiana Lottery and the Greater Baton Rouge Area Arts Council.
