BATON ROUGE - "I'm still trying to make sure I'm not sleeping," were the words Lynn Schiffers said to describe winning the Aug. 12 Lotto jackpot. "Mom and Pete said they knew it was me as soon as they saw that the winner was from Lacombe," she continued, referring to her mother and stepfather who accompanied Schiffers to claim the $250,000 Lotto jackpot prize at Lottery headquarters.

Schiffers said that she plans to buy her mom a new vehicle and help her to finish her home, damaged during Hurricane Katrina. She also plans to help her father with the rebuilding of his home, as well. Schiffers said, "I'm glad to help my parents to rebuild and this will help them greatly. But, my husband and I will enjoy this money, too!"

Schiffers, an employee of Boh Brothers in New Orleans, retired after 25 years of service before Hurricane Katrina. After the storm, she went back to work to help a shortened staff, which includes her husband. "I couldn't help but go back to work. They needed me, and I was glad to go back and help," she said.
Schiffers became the seventh Louisiana Lotto jackpot winner in seven weeks. She received $175,000 after federal and state income taxes were withheld.

She bought a "quick pick" ticket at L&M Chevron on Highway 190 in Lacombe. The store will receive a one-time bonus of $2,500, or 1 percent of the prize. The winning numbers for the Aug. 12 drawing were 10-15-16-29-38-39.
