The 69-year-old said his wife, Joyce Hebert, matched all five white ball numbers in the Nov. 28 drawing, but she missed the Powerball number. "I thought I only won $1,000," she said when she joined her husband at Lottery headquarters in Baton Rouge on Wednesday to collect the prize. When Joyce Hebert found out she won a much more substantial amount, she told her husband to sign the ticket. "I tried not to get emotional," David Hebert said as he wiped away tears. He received $700,000 after federal and state taxes were withheld. He said his grandchildren told him it was time to buy a new boat. Family members who came with him to collect his prize said they would like to go on vacation, but Joyce Hebert reminded them that she doesn't fly. The ticket was purchased at Winn Dixie #1353 on Brownswitch Road in Slidell. The store will receive a one-time bonus of $10,000 for selling the winning ticket. Louisiana Lottery players won $2.1 million in Powerball prizes from last Wednesday's drawing. Powerball sales on Nov. 28 reached nearly $8 million in Louisiana alone. The Louisiana Lottery transfers 35 percent of every sale to fund K-12 public education. Ticket purchasers must be at least 21 years of age. Draw-style game tickets must be claimed within 180 days of the drawing. Anyone who may have a gambling problem or friends and family of anyone with a gambling problem should call toll free 1-877-770-7867 for help. For security purposes, the Lottery strongly encourages players to sign the back of their tickets immediately after purchasing.
